Mercedes EQC: an electric revolution from Mercedes-Benz

Nowadays, everyone wants their own electric SUV or crossover! Do you want it too? Discover the first 100% electric SUV from the German brand: the Mercedes EQC. Launched on the market in 2019, it enters the battle by playing it safe.

Design of the Mercedes EQC electric

The EQC Mercedes is a unique and avant-garde design by Mercedes-Benz. The materials and colors underline the unique character of the first model in the EQ range dedicated to electric vehicles.

Exterior

The classic yet futuristic premium SUV is distinguished by its front end. Gone are the chrome motifs that the star brand usually uses on its models. Instead, a large black band integrates the headlights.

The latter stretches towards the LED headlights, with a unique digital signature that crosses the entire grille. This distinctive sign of the EQ family is also found at the rear of the vehicle.

The Mercedes Benz EQC electric car features a special lighting design. The Multibeam LED headlamps perceive the environment at the speed of light. They are integrated in a glossy black interior housing with decorative lines in energy blue.

When the vehicle is stationary, the LED strips of light are an immediate eye-catcher, both at the front and rear, especially at night. The door sills feature a backlit EQC monogram.

The roofline extends down towards the rear of the vehicle, which completely reinterprets the design of SUVs. Thus, the aesthetics are dynamic, and the height at the rear of the cabin is equally pleasing.

Interior

Inside the cabin, the new and “electro” aesthetic brings a unique design, which creates a pleasant enveloping effect. Discover a vast dashboard that hosts two screens, under a resplendent glass. Each 10.25 inches in size, they display information in high-resolution color accompanied by elaborate animations.

The first fully digital screen is the instrument panel, and the second is the digital multimedia screen. In one and the same element, they form the Widescreen driving position. Depending on your personal needs and desires, you can choose the positioning of the content, and operate it by touch or voice control.

At night, the interior of the EQC Mercedes is transformed into a real sunrise. 64 colors are available with different effects and color worlds.

Thus, multiple areas can be delicately illuminated. Enjoy the moment in the multi-contour seats. Comfortable, they adapt to you and your body and can regenerate tired muscles thanks to the two honeycombs in the lumbar area that massage your back.

Finally, the power sunroof brings a bright atmosphere to the Mercedes EQC. The fresh air circulating in the cabin is pleasant and draught-free. For additional protection from the sun’s rays, a sliding roof is available. Are you convinced?

Trunk dimensions and volume

With a length of 4.76 meters, a width of 1.88 meters, a height of 1.62 meters and a curb weight of 2,495 kg, the Mercedes EQC electric is classified in the category of large SUVs and all-terrain vehicles. The Ford Mustang Mach-e, the BMW iX3, the Tesla Model Y and the Audi e-Tron are all in this category.

The trunk volume of 500 liters remains modest because of the bulky rear engine. It climbs to 1,460 liters with the rear seats folded down. However, this storage space is still below that offered by its main competitor, the Audi e-Tron. But it’s still a far cry from the 2,184 liters that the Tesla Model X can achieve by folding down its rear seats.

Engines and performance

The combined power of the two asynchronous electric motors (one at the front and the other at the rear) coupled with an all-wheel drive system, develops up to 408 horsepower (300 kW) of total power and 760 Nm of immediate torque.

Finally, the unit is controlled by an automatic gearbox, and offers five driving models: Comfort, Eco, Max, Range, Sport. The manufacturer announces a maximum speed of 180 km/h, and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds.

Mercedes battery and range

The lithium-ion battery, with a useful energy content of 80 kWh, provides an electric range of 373 to 437 km (WLTP mixed cycle) and 428 to 498 km (WLTP urban cycle).

Integrated under the floor, it consists of six modules, two with 48 cells and four with 72 cells. Totaling 384 cells on its own, and weighs 650 kg. The battery maintains its performance in hot or cold weather, thanks to the thermal regulation system.

Depending on the maximum power, the recovery of electrical energy during deceleration is quite effective. But no revolution for Mercedes, this system already exists on the Nissan Leaf and BMW i3.

Several equipment allow to optimize the autonomy of the Mercedes-Benz EQC, as the heat pump or the function of pre-air conditioning. Thus, the driver has the possibility to adjust the temperature as he wants, and this, from the main touch screen, or via the application.

Finally, the average electric consumption is between 19.8 and 23.3 kWh/100 km in the combined cycle, and between 18.6 and 21.7 kWh/100 km in the city. As for CO2 emissions, an electric car has 0g/km!

How to recharge the Mercedes EQC?

The Mercedes Benz EQC can be recharged quickly and comfortably at home using the wallbox. On the move, you can use the public charging stations that can be found just about everywhere (parking lots, supermarkets, cinemas, etc.), as well as the Ionity fast charging network.

In alternating current (AC): with the three-phase charger in 11 kW, the charging time is 7h30 for a 10 to 100% recharge.
In direct current (DC): on a fast charging station with Combo up to 110 kW, 40 minutes are enough for a recharge from 10 to 80%.

Our opinion

This very first electric vehicle from Mercedes is comfortable and the technology is well accomplished. The driving is pleasant and the electric energy recovery system is efficient. You will be seduced without any problem! Nevertheless, this electric SUV may be too big for the city, and is more for customers who travel long distances.
