Renault repositions its historic Scenic nameplate into the electric era with a compact SUV designed for families. The new Scenic 2026 enters the highly competitive segment of electric SUVs under 4.5 meters, facing Volkswagen ID.5, Tesla Model Y and other Hyundai Ioniq 5. With two battery architectures, the French manufacturer aims to cover both daily commutes and long journeys. The range starts at 39,990 €, an aggressive positioning compared to German alternatives, but the model must convince through its habitability and onboard technology.

Design and livability

At 4.47 meters long and 1.57 meters tall, the Scenic displays balanced proportions for a compact SUV. Its width of 1.86 meters and wheelbase of 2.78 meters ensure good stability and a spacious cabin. Weighing 1,850 kg when loaded represents controlled mass for this category, favorable to energy efficiency.

Cargo space amounts to 520 liters, sufficient for typical family use but less expandable than some competitors with modular trunks. The turning radius of 10.9 meters facilitates circulation in dense urban areas. Renault includes a heat pump as standard, strategic equipment to preserve winter range, unlike several rivals that offer it as an option.

Engine and performance

Two electric motors power the range. The entry version delivers 125 kW (170 hp) and reaches 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds for a top speed of 150 km/h. The higher variant reaches 160 kW (220 hp) with a 0-100 in 7.9 seconds and 170 km/h top speed. No all-wheel drive is offered: only front-wheel drive equips both versions.

Performance remains measured, appropriate for a family vehicle rather than a sports car. The absence of specified torque in newton-meters complicates direct comparison with the competition, but the displayed accelerations suggest linear motorization without excessive instantaneous power.

Range and charging

The 60 kWh battery would allow 420 kilometers according to WLTP standards, sufficient for daily commutes but requiring charging every two to three days for intensive use. The 87 kWh battery brings this range to 610 kilometers, more aligned with expectations of frequent long-distance users.

With fast DC charging, the Scenic 60 kWh accepts 130 kW, while the 87 kWh version reaches 150 kW. These charging speeds place Renault in the middle of the segment. Alternating current (AC) charging is capped at 22 kW on both versions, standard for this size. The regenerative braking system offers four intensity levels, allowing the user to adapt energy recovery to their driving style.

Equipment and technology

The 12-inch vertical multimedia screen forms the central interface element. It natively supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, facilitating smartphone integration. A wireless charger for smartphones completes the connected equipment, a practical detail but now expected at this price point.

The 360-degree camera offers panoramic visibility useful for maneuvering in tight spaces. The physical regenerative braking paddles allow manual control of energy recovery, a pragmatic approach compared to fully automated systems. No mention of V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) battery appears in standard equipment.
