Renault Austral E-Tech full hybrid: taking control

renault-austral-picture

The brand to the diamond expands its range of SUV with the new Renault Austral E-Tech. An ambitious model, 100% hybrid, which offers powerful acceleration, efficiency and impressive stability. It is in the tradition of “cars for everyone’s comfort”.

New design for the Renault Austral E-Tech SUV

In the continuity of the Megane E-Tech electric and the first SUV-coupe Renault Arkana hybrid, the Renault Austral 2022 starts from scratch with a new design. New design means new personality, new engine, and new technologies of course.

“Sensual Tech” exterior

This new Renault Austral SUV adopts the brand’s new “Sensual Tech” design. The lines are generously shaped with sculpted surfaces and prominent rear flanks. The front end is assertive thanks to a checkered grille dominated by chrome with the new “Nouvel’R” logo.

Finally, the full-LED C-Shape lighting at the front and rear is Renault’s signature light feature. On the tailgate, a long LED strip joins the logo on both sides, giving it a rather dynamic style!

Interior

Enter a 100% modern Austral Renault. The interior is spacious and well cared for. Fully digital, the cokpit is “L” shaped. Innovative, it gives an enveloping aspect for the driver.

The dashboard, named OpenR, is equipped with a 12.3-inch instrument panel, with the extension of a 12-inch screen vertically, dedicated to multimedia.

The space between the front seats is generous. This last one includes a central console with a fairly large, sliding handrest, and above all, comfortable. Great for long trips! Also, you will find an induction charging station for your smartphone. 35 liters of storage space, easily accessible and flexible, are located at the front of the vehicle.

Dimensions and trunk volume

The dimensions are generous and this is the common point with the Citroën family SUV. The new Renault Austral E-Tech is 4.51 m long, 1.83 m wide and 1.62 m high. On board, this new Renault Austral SUV can accommodate up to 5 passengers.

The trunk volume is 430 liters and climbs to 555 liters thanks to the sliding rear seats. Also, these 16 cm of possible backwardness, allow to offer a bigger space for the legs.

Alpine Spirit Version

“Esprit Alpine” is the new top-of-the-range version that the diamond-shaped brand is launching. It is distinguished by its sporty design. Dressed in an exclusive Gris Schiste Satin matte finish, it has a front bumper with a sporty blade, 20-inch Daytona aluminum wheels and “3D moiré” effect taillights.

The upholstery is in Alcantara fabric with blue stitching and embroidery on the headrest. The steering wheel is in nappa leather/Alcantara with blue, white and red stitching. Finally, the side badges Esprit Alpine do not fail to recall the level of finish.

Where is the Renault Austral 2022 manufactured?

The Austral of the French car manufacturer Renault is produced in the plant of Palancia in Spain, like the Kadjar. The brand with the diamond has bet everything on this SUV, the competitor of the family SUV Peugeot 3008.

Engines, performance and consumption

The Renault Austral E-Tech replaces the Kadjar produced from 2015 to 2022 and is based on the CMF-CD3 technical platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi group. This allows the submission of three types of motorization: “E-Tech Full Hybrid”, “Mild Hybrid”, and “Mild Hybrid Advanced” :

Full Hybrid: develops between 160 and 200 hp with the help of its 3-cylinder 1.2 turbo gasoline block, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 1.7 kWh. The latter operates at 400 volts. The whole is driven by a multi-mode automatic gearbox with 7 gears. The average consumption is 4.6 l/100 and 105 g of C02/km.
Mild Hybrid: this configuration also abandons the diesel and relies on the 4-cylinder 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline block, available in 140 and 160 hp (103 and 118 kW) with X-Tronic automatic transmission and in 6-speed manual in 140 hp. The engine is assisted by a starter-alternator and a 12-volt battery. The consumption is 6.2 l/100 and 136 g/km for CO2 emissions.
Mild Hybrid Avanced: is based on a 3-cylinder 1.2 with a 48-volt battery for 130 hp. The consumption is 5.3 l/100 and 123 g/km in CO2 emissions. With this engine, the energy efficiency is maximized, and consumption is 20% lower than the equivalent of a thermal engine without hybridization. A good alternative to diesel.
