New Kia Niro electric: technology that works wonders

This second generation of the Kia Niro EV replaces the e-Niro launched in 2018, after the hybrid version in 2016, and the PHEV in 2017. It returns with an all-new version. 100% electric, this family crossover offers futuristic technologies, highly advanced connectivity and safety. Discover it, and electrify your future with the Kia Niro electric !

2022 Kia Niro EV: electrifying style

In all circumstances, the Kia Niro EV guarantees its driver a smooth and effortless ride. In order to provide all passengers with a calm, functional and inspiring environment, every detail of the new Niro’s interior has been thought out with the utmost care. Come and enjoy a bold and assertive design down to the last detail.

Interior and exterior design

The 100% Kia Niro EV stands out on the outside, thanks to its wide, body-colored front bumper. The latter integrates a charging socket in the center. To enhance its personality, this crossover has lower body inserts and a Comet Grey rear pillar, depending on the trim level.

The 17-inch alloy wheels are specially designed for the Kia Nero Electric. They are distinguished by their 5-spoke design, with a two-tone finish enhanced by black inserts. Depending on the level of finish chosen, the Kia Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid benefit from 16 or 18 inch alloy wheels.

Settle into an interior where the best of design and technology has been chosen. This one is largely inspired by the Kia EV6. The seats are comfortable, and the equipment is smart.

Depending on the trim level, the dashboard features a 10.25-inch panoramic display. The latter consists of two high-definition digital screens. All the information and infotainment functions of driving are grouped there.

On the workstation side, the multimedia systems, heating and air conditioning are integrated into the center console and can be easily managed by the driver or passenger. As you can see, the interior atmosphere is very relaxing.

Trunk dimensions and volume

Larger than the previous version, the Kia Niro electric is 4.42 m long, with a width of 1.83 m, a height of 1.57 m, and a wheelbase extended to 2.72 m. The latter offers an outstanding habitability and loading volume.

Indeed, having a front trunk located under the hood, with a capacity of 20 liters, it is ideal to store all kinds of objects. Like the charging cable, for example. If you need to fit particularly bulky items in your vehicle, the rear trunk has a cargo capacity of 475 liters, and up to 1,445 liters with the rear seats folded down. Its maximum towing capacity is 750 kg.

The 100% Kia Niro electric is in the crossover category, more than in the compact SUV category, such as the Peugeot 3008 or Kia Sportage, which are up to 10 cm higher.

Motorization and performance

Technically, the Kia Niro electric is compared to the Hyundai Kona electric. The new version is limited to one engine, more powerful, against two engines for the first generation.

The crossover is capable of developing up to 204 horsepower, or 150 kW of power. It has a torque of 255 Nm. The top speed is allowed up to 167 km/h, and the 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in 7.8 seconds.

Autonomy and battery

The Korean manufacturer announces, in mixed cycle WLTP, an exceptional autonomy of 463 kilometers with a charge. This is only 5 km more than the previous generation. Its average consumption is 16.2 kWh/100 km.

But that’s not surprising, since the battery capacity is almost unchanged at 64.8 kWh, compared to 64 kWh before. As for the engine, Kia has limited the choice of batteries, the 39.2 kWh version not being transposed to this new body, due to lack of commercial success,

How to recharge the new Kia Niro electric?

At home, at the office, or at a public charging station, anything is possible! The charging socket is located in the center of the front grille. The newcomer is equipped with an on-board 11 kW AC charger as standard on all models.

It reduces the recharge time to 5 hours 45 minutes for a full recharge, on a suitable box. With a 100 kW fast charger, it takes only 43 minutes to recharge the battery of the new Niro from 10 to 80%.

The 100% Kia Niro electric also features a V2L bi-directional system. The energy stored in the battery is used to charge other electrical devices.

With the Kia Charge public charging solution, you can access more than 360,000 charging stations in Europe, including 45,000 in France, as well as the Ionity supercharger network.

Dynamism and safety

To ensure optimal safety for all passengers of the Kia Niro electric, it is equipped with DRIVE WISE technologies. They integrate all the latest driving assistance systems:

Our opinion

With its spacious interior and massive battery, the Korean crossover is surely one of the best offerings on the electric market. It’s making headway on many criteria.

Indeed, its autonomy is of good level, thanks to an energy management system, which also favors the charging time. The vehicle doesn’t hide its weight and offers a driving pleasure unknown until now on an electric Kia. Finally, when it comes to the price of a 100% electric car, this question and that of usage remain essential.
