Kia EV6 electric crossover: get ready for the future

kia-ev6

Based on the e-GMP platform, this 100% electric crossover offers an attractive and distinctive design. The new Kia EV6 will set the standard for the years to come. Available for pre-order, it has already been voted Car of the Year 2022.

Design of the 100% electric Kia EV6 (2022)

Cousin to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6 is thought out in the smallest details, and displays a sporty and distinctive look. The carmaker has thought of everything, especially the safety of its passengers on the road.

Indeed, the direction of light flow can be precisely adjusted to each situation, thanks to a camera integrated in the front of the vehicle. Full LED matrix headlamps, even in full beam, will not dazzle vehicles in front or those coming in front.

Depending on the version, the system takes into account the parts of the lights that are focused on the area, and deactivates them selectively.

The numerous LEDs that start at the rear wheel arch, stretch across the width of the trunk, and reach the other end of the vehicle. This curved line creates a seductive effect. As for the Tiger Nose grille usually found on the brand’s models, it becomes a Digital Tiger Face.

Thus, the visual impact of the vehicle is accentuated. You won’t go unnoticed! In order to facilitate your access to the vehicle, the handles are hidden and deploy automatically when you approach the vehicle.

Dimensions

As for the dimensions of the EV6 Kia, the crossover has a length of 4,680 mm and up to 4,695 mm for the GT-lin version. A width of 1 880 mm and a height of 1 550 mm.

In addition to its generous rear trunk space of up to 520 liters, the EV6 also has a front trunk without an engine. This is limited to 20 liters of storage for the all-wheel drive versions, and can reach up to 52 liters for the rear-wheel drive version.

This is an ideal place to store the charging cable, and it doesn’t clutter up the rear trunk. The maximum towing capacity of the Kia EV6 is 1,600 kg.

A flattering interior

Step inside the Kia EV6 and discover a bright and sleek atmosphere. Many technologies are integrated into the cabin. They help keep you alert, spark your imagination, and keep you safe.

On the dashboard, there is a dual immersive panoramic curved screen of 2 x 12.3 inches. The first screen provides the key instruments, and the second, offers an infotainment system.

The EV6 Kia also features a head-up display, which is standard on the GT-line trim. This allows navigation instructions to be displayed on the windshield, directly in your field of vision while driving.

With intuitive touch controls on the center console, passengers can change navigation, entertainment and heating/air conditioning functions at the touch of a button.

Where is the latest Kia EV6 manufactured ?

The EV6 Kia is manufactured in South Korea. It is the first vehicle of the car manufacturer Kia from its 100% electric platform. Following its launch in the second half of 2021 in Europe, it sold 3,274 units. It is in January 2022 that it made its entry on the American market.

Engines and performance

The new Kia V6 comes in three different versions. Compare them and find the one that suits you best:

Propulsion: electric motor block with up to 168 kW of power, i.e. 229 hp and 350 Nm of torque, on 2 driving wheels. The 0 to 100 km/h is reached in 7.3 seconds, and the top speed is 188 km/h (measured on a circuit).
All-wheel drive: the two engines are split between the front and rear axles (four-wheel drive). Together they produce 239 kW of power, or 325 hp and 605 Nm of torque. Its maximum top speed is also 188 km/h, and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.2 seconds.
GT: Available from the end of 2022, this version has 430 kW of power, or 584 hp and 740 Nm of torque. The GT is capable of reaching a top speed of 260 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
This vehicle is ready to take on any challenge. Of course, without emitting any pollutants.

Battery and autonomy

The Kia EV6 offers a battery with a useful capacity of 77.4 kWh. This allows up to 528 km of autonomy in mixed cycle. But beware, the driving style as well as various factors: speed, outside temperature, topography and the use of electric consumers, can have a direct impact on the actual range, and are likely to reduce it.

How to recharge the new Kia EV6 ?

The EV6 Kia is equipped with a high-speed 400-800 V multiple charging system. It is possible to connect to both an ultra-fast 800V charging station and a conventional 400V charging station. Thus, you benefit from an optimal charging speed, on all types of chargers.

The battery is charged from 10 to 80% in only 18 minutes. With such a powerful charge, it is possible to recover up to 100 km of autonomy in 4 minutes 30. Continue your journey to your destination!

The new E-GMP platform opens up new possibilities for drivers and designers alike. Because the battery has a large capacity, it can be used as a portable power source. This reverse charging function, called “V2L” (Vehicle-to-Load), which costs 500 euros as an option, can be used to supply power to all kinds of devices.

During your daily and leisure activities, plug in your electric bike, camping equipment, video projector, and even other electric vehicles. This system can deliver up to 3.6 kW of power.
